Cheap Clean Eats!

FHey folks!

So many of you have asked me what my diet is like and how to eat clean on a tight budget. People tend to think that eating healthy is 'expensive' and that the reason the don't eat more greens is because fast food is cheaper which, quite frankly is a terrible excuse. EH HELLO COLES VALUE TUNA!?

Yes many healthy brands are crazy expensive but you don't have to buy that 100% organic shite. I am not sure how some brands can justify pricing peanut butter at $17 a jar just because it puts the word organic in front of it. I mean,  unless the peanuts have been picked by enchanted fairies or Bradley Cooper there is no way you should pay that, even if you are cashed up. The truth is the cheaper version of products and frozen varieties are just as good and won't leave you surving on instant noodles for a week.

If you are on a budget and want to eat healthy either when travelling or at home the best advice I can give you is to plan. Plan your meals and snacks for a full week and just do one big food shop on a Sunday evening. It means no over spending and no bad food to temp you because however many times you open the fridge all that will be staring back at you is brocolli....and Coles value tuna.

My boyfriend and I spend roughly $100 on groceries between us (£50) and that gives us more than enough grub to last us the week. Here is our usual shopping list...

4 x bags of 1kg sweet potato
2 packs 1kg packs of Coles mince
5 x Coles value tuna
7 x Coles mini flavoured tuna
4 x 500g bags of frozen brocolli
4 x 250g frozen spinach
7 x large bananas
3 x 500g frozen mixed berries
1 Jar of Sanitarium PB
1 Jar Coles hazelnut chocolate spread (we get Nutella if on special!)
1 x 1kg of Coles value quick oats
3 x dozen eggs
4 x Coles value light milk
1 x bag if green apples
1 x 1kg bag of carrots

Total cost - $106.42 for two people.

And then if we need it we get things like cajun seasoning, mustard, green tea and coffee etc.

A typical days diet for myself using these items is as follows...

Breakfast -

I try and start the day with a green tea and a litre of water.

My serious mass gain shake. I need to use two bloody mixers to make the dam thing because it's so thick. I am not joking, you could build a hoose using it as cement. I mix it with half a banana, one heaped table spoon of PB and half a cup of Berries given me a total of 800-820 calories first thing!

I understand that people don't have protein and that it is expensive so my alternative to this would be a simple bowl of protein porridge made with 1/2 cup quick oats, 1 egg (sounds gross but trust me it's good), half a banana, a spoonful of PB and some berries.

I also often have my healthy 3 ingredient pancakes. You can find the recipe for these on my Instagram account @globesquatterfitness...

Lunch -

Lunch is usually 200g of tuna, one egg, a cup of brocolli and a cup of spinach....

Looks delightful. I promise it doesn't taste of arsehole.

Dinner

Dinner again is 200g of tuna, a large - medium sweet potato, one egg and a cup of brocolli...

Snacks -

My USN protien shake which I mix with milk, half a banana, PB and berries and before bed I have chocolate milk or another bowl of protein porridge if I am feeling hungry with some hazelnut chocolate spread mixed in and more berries. I also usually have a cappucino with light milk and hunners of water until I am running for a piss every 5 minutes.

So there you have it. My typical daily diet and shopping list. Each meal costs less than $2.50 (£1.50) and nothing is too hard to prepare. Just stick it in the microwave! I like to keep things simple and eat the same things most days as it makes it easier when we work so much. On a Sunday night we do enjoy a takeaway or make our own cheat meal and eat junk on front of the tv and then moan about being obese and never wanting to eat junk again...until the next week, standard. Coles also do litre tubs of ice cream for $4.70 everyday...

Man, I fucking love Coles.

My Super Exciting Life Update One...

Happy New Year Everyone!

So here I am, sitting in a cafe using the WiFi and sipping on a cold coffee that has been in front of me for over an hour because I can't afford another one. This is living eh?

We have recently moved in to our own house, okay not house, shed. Yes a shed. A shed that has been converted into a house, well kind of? it has a fridge and a toilet that flushes. It is cheap, in town and perfect for us and our budget but the fact that it doesn't have a phone line which means no internet is a bit of (major) pain in the tits.

No internet means that I have not been able to update my blog or instagram account has much so I thought I would give you all a brief update on my amazing exciting crazy life....

1. Still working as a waitress serving half shot non fat extra skinny caramel blessed by the Pope lattés.
2. Still bulking but still canny rest a pint on my arse. I am now banned from going near the glass cupboard.
3. Moved in to the new 'house', spent a shit load on new accessories to make it less 'shed-like'.... still blatantly looks like a shed.
4. Filmed some workouts on my new camera but have no idea how to upload them so currently restraining my self from throwing my tablet against the wall.
5. Found out on Christmas day that pork crackle does not agree with me.
6. Also found out that pork crackle not agreeing with you plus meat sweats is not fun. Give me a cold nipply Christmas any day.
7. Got wrecked on NYE and ate the entire fridge... again.
8. Planning on buying an insect bomb for the house/shed.
9. Ghosts of a Gilfriends Past is on tonight at 8.30 and I am planning on watching it.
10. Looking at buying another ukelele along with an insurance policy on it so I can't use 'losing it' as an excuse for not playing the thing.

So yeah that is it. I know, I know, so much to take in eh?

I will blog again once I get a spare minute in my absolutely jam packed life. Also when I can find another cafe that lets me sit in for two hours with one coffee without all the staff members giving me the death stare...
